Has the weather finally turned? Somehow Punxsutawney Phil was all wrong this year — and he’s usually quite conservative, predicting 6 more weeks of winter more times in history than an early spring. But finally it seems our season has come.
The Hershey Harrisburg region is ideal for spending time outdoors spring through fall. From fishing holes to bike trails, sporting events (welcome back, baseball!) to picnics and al fresco dining, there are many ways to enjoy the fresh air and beautiful landscape of our area.
Here are just a few suggestions on how to spend your spring in Hershey Harrisburg:
Baseball! Last week we shared information on the Harrisburg Senators, the city’s Double-A baseball team (and Washington Nationals affiliate), and their opening weekend festivities. The Harrisburg Senators’ season runs through September and includes loads of promotions and extra built-in fun for the whole family, including fireworks most Friday nights! For a complete scheduled visit our Event Calendar.
Explore the outdoors! We have some great resources for discovering and learning about Pennsylvania wildlife. The Olewine Nature Center and Wildwood Park offer fantastic tours to explore native plants and animals. The Ned Smith Center for Nature & Art has tremendous programming year-round, including a Cruisin’ the Cosmos Astronomy Program and Sundays in the Gallery. For a picturesque day among flowers and specialty gardens, you must make time for a stroll through Hershey Gardens.
Walk, run or bike all or part of the Capital Area Greenbelt for a look at Harrisburg’s greenspace. Or, check out Blue Mountain Outfitters, Susquehanna Outfitters or Susquehanna Fly and Spin Guide Service to get into our waterways for kayaking or fishing.
Pennsylvania’s outdoors aren’t complete without consideration of its animals. The whole family will love a trip to ZooAmerica North American Wildlife Park — or perhaps a trip to Wolf Sanctuary of PA.
