April 22 is the officially recognized Earth Day, but the celebration and awareness begins early.
At ZooAmerica North American Wildlife Park, Sunday is a Party for the Planet! The event is free with regular admission ($10.50 for adults; $8.50 for juniors and seniors), and families will have the opportunity to learn about plant and animal conservation and what you can do to help maintain earth’s natural beauty. There will be fun activities, animal demonstrations, plus helpful tips from ZooAmerica naturalists and volunteers.
Also on Sunday, Hershey Gardens hosts Gardenfest, an annual free community day. Entry to the Gardens is free all day, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Local organizations will provide information on a variety of community and garden programs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Kid’s Spring Fling is happening Saturday in Etters at Wrap-N-Go Florist. The event focuses on spring, Earth Day and Arbor Day and is loaded with fun and educational activities. Entertainment includes Bob’s Critters, Jimbo the Clown Balloon Art, a Scavenger Hunt, Bounce House, plus snacks, games, prizes and crafts. Kids also can explore a firetruck, ambulance and recycling truck.
On Sunday, Green Urban Initiatives is hosting a benefit show to help educate about sustainable living practices in Harrisburg. The event is at the Abbey Bar at Appalachian Brewing Company in Harrisburg and feature live musical performances from a number of talented local musicians, including Eric Dietrick and his Sax, Mike Banks, Mojo Flamenco, Mountain Ride and The Greatest Funeral Ever. The event also features guest speakers and raffle prizes. Proceeds from the event benefit GUI and its ongoing mission. Doors open at 1 p.m.; show starts at 2 p.m.
