Bring on spring!

March calls for new beginnings, and we have plenty of new happenings in the Hershey-Harrisburg Region.

The Antique Automobile Club of America Museum is celebrating Women’s History Month with their special exhibition, “Sirens of Chrome.” The Enduring allure of Auto Show Models is a visual joyride through auto show history. The focus isn’t simply sheet metal; it’s on the distinctly human presence. These human hood ornaments and walking encyclopedias of fuel-economy and towing-capacity specifications are descendants of the Sirens of ancient Greek lore. They seek not to dash ships upon rocks but to entice the purchase of land-worthy ships to set sail upon the highways and byways of America.

Brand new at Sight & Sound Theatres is the story of Moses, starting this week and Mosesrunning through 2013. Journey back through time and relive the golden splendor and pride of ancient Egypt, the poverty and oppression of the Hebrew slaves and the humble, broken man that God raised up. Not only will the audience be completely immersed in the spectacular, epic events of the story, but will experience the humanity of Moses and the children of Israel as they struggle for faith, freedom and belonging. More.

Perry County Council of the Arts features the Landis Legacy Project, running through April 11, at Landis House. Titled “Tangents: The Oral History Project, “ this exhibition adds a new dimension by combining videos, researched and created by Newport High School students as part of an arts-in-education residency to shed new light on some of the Landis Collection’s most fascinating artifacts.

This week The State Museum of Pennsylvania also launches new programs at the Planetarium, running through June 1. First is “Black Holes: the other side of infinity,” which uses the latest discoveries and observations to help us view the formation of the early universe, star birth and death, the collision of giant galaxies, and a simulated flight to the super massive black hole at the center of our own Milky Way Galaxy.

The second show, “Passport to the Universe,” treats the audience to realistic close-up views of star fields and planets, taking them on an exhilarating flight through a virtual re-creation of our universe, into the Orion Nebula, out of our galaxy, and deep into intergalactic space.
