Did you know that Pennsylvania has more than 100 craft breweries, and our region is home to an impressive — and growing — number of those?

A dozen of our local breweries — all within a 30 minute drive of Hershey and Harrisburg — have partnered to create Hershey Harrisburg Craft Beer Country, a beer trail that will promote area tourism and educate visitors about craft beer.

The partnering breweries are: Alter Ego Brewing Company, Appalachian Brewing Company, Bube’s Brewery, JoBoy’s Brew Pub, Lancaster Brewing Company, Market Cross Pub & Brewery, Millbock Brewing Company, Pizza Boy Brewing, Snitz Creek Brewery, St. Boniface Brewing Company, The Brewery at Hershey and Troegs Brewing Company.

Much like its sister trail, Hershey Harrisburg Wine Country, the Hershey Harrisburg Craft Beer Country is expected to draw visitors to the area’s vast – and growing – handcrafted, locally sourced breweries. It also will feature seasonal “trail” events.

The first is the inaugural Central PA Oktoberfest at Hollywood Casino and Penn National Race Course on October 5.

Guests will sample local craft beers from all partnering breweries, paired with traditional Pennsylvania Dutch foods. Tickets also include live music by Beatles tribute band, Number Nine, and admission to the Run for the Laurels horse race.

VIP tickets ($50) get you in an hour early – plus specialty beers from each brewer and a “deluxe souvenir mug.”

General admission tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door. Designated Driver tickets also are available for $10 and include two free soft drinks or bottled waters.
