The Butterfly House at Hershey Gardens has opened for the season. This incredible attraction features more than 350 butterflies of 25 varieties. It’s an all-in-one for these beautiful winged creatures, who will snack on nectar plants and lay eggs in host plants. You can witness the entire butterfly life cycle, including the chrysalis box, from which more than 100 butterflies will emerge.
The Butterfly House is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through September 15 and is included in your Hershey Gardens admission.
Put that visit with one to Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts in downtown Harrisburg, and you can catch Flight of the Butterflies 3D at the IMAX theatre. This 44-min film follows millions of butterflies on a journey to a remote hideaway and follows one scientist’s 40-year search to discover it.
Perhaps a look at prehistoric giants are more your speed! Also now playing at Whitaker Center’s IMAX theatre is Dinosaurs Alive! 3D. This huge adventure of science and discovery features dinosaurs from the earliest Triassic Period do the Cretaceous brought to “life” on the monster-sized IMAX screen.
Plus, catch Dinos at Dusk now through July 26. Every Friday, you can check out the DinoAdventure exhibit after hours – from 5-8 p.m.
Dino Adventure is located inside the Gloria M. Olewine Gallery of Harsco Science Center and included in your Whitaker Center admission. It features interactive, life-sized Tyrannosaurus Rex, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, the web-winged Pteranodon, and two marine reptiles: Mosasaurus and a long-necked Elasmosaurus — letting you see how dinosaur life really was.
Don’t miss the “Be the Dinosaur” simulator pods where you become a live dinosaur in the virtual Cretaceous ecosystem — or the Dino Dig, where kids can play archaeologist for the day.
