Hitting the waters!

August celebrated one of my dearest friends’ birthday, but she’s not a fan of the typical dinner-and-drinks get-together. No, she wanted to go kayaking!

We booked our trip through Blue Mountain Outfitters for our girls’ trip along the Susquehanna River, and it could not have been easier.

We rented two 2-person kayaks and chose one of two routes — either Duncannon to Marysville, or Marysville to West Fairview. We opted for the longer of the two, and in my book, more convenient.

We arrived before our scheduled time to make sure we had everything in order and pay our fee, which included the rental as well as the transport to the river bank in Duncannon. We first watched a safety video and looked over our maps so we could avoid troublesome rocks.

The Susquehanna River was pretty low this time of year, but that just made things more fun.

We opted to mostly float down the river, taking in a perfectly blue sky, bright sun and gorgeous river. We spied egrets and other water fowl, and crossed right in front of the miniature Statue of Liberty.

We crossed the river twice on our way down and when we docked in Marysville, all we had to do was turn over our kayaks, return the life preservers and oars and be on our way!
