The quintessential way to spend the last days of summer in Harrisburg is at the annual three-day street fair known as Kipona. From the Native American term for “sparkling waters,” Kipona is one of the country’s oldest waterfront festivals.
Events include the annual Keystone Regional Chili Cook-off, Native American Pow-Wow, “Breath of Nature” Karate Tournament and Bassmasters Fishing Tournament.
Three new activities have been added for 2013 — a Wine Village, New Jersey Outlaws Motor Boat Racing and Harrisburg Healthy Cafe
Admission to Kipona is always free. Enjoy music, food, rides, games, boat racing, fishing, karate and — of course — one of Pennsylvania’s largest fireworks displays.
And one of the best ways to catch those sky-illuminating fireworks is from the deck of The Pride of the Susquehanna, Harrisburg’s own riverboat.
The dinner cruise will include a menu from Premier Catering, live entertainment from Tom Whitcom and Randy Gotshall.
Hunters Valley Winery in Perry County is hosting its 4th annual Country Casual on Labor Day weekend, as well. The event raises money for the Perry County Council of the Arts and features live music from The Stray Birds. It also features food and a silent auction.
