Where will you ring in the New Year this year? The Hershey-Harrisburg is chock-full of fun events — for adults or the whole family – to celebrate the final day of the holiday season.
Hummelstown’s 10th Annual Lollipop Drop will start at 9 p.m. in the square. Geared towards the whole family, this year’s event features laser tag, kid’s games, an ice carver, caricature artist, clowns – plus a video game theater with five screens to play Xbox 360 and Wii games! A DJ will provide the soundtrack for the night, and food will be available for sale. Countdown to midnight, when they’ll drop a giant lollipop, with a fireworks display to follow. This event is family friendly and free!
In Duncannon, they’ll celebrate the new year with the 13th annual Sled Drop. A 10-foot sled will be dropped from a 115-foot high restored fire tower at the Old Sled Works Antiques and Crafts Market. From 10 p.m. ‘til midnight, you can enjoy complimentary hot dogs, beverages, commemorative wood nickels and tickets for prizes. The party also features music and free drawings for gift certificates.
In New Bloomfield, everything is free at the Huckleberry Drop. Starting at 10 p.m., enjoy free hot dogs, soup, baked goods and beverages. A DJ will provide music, plus there will be a crazy hat contest, 50/50 raffle — and of course, the dropping of the huckleberry at midnight from the Court House Clock Tower on the square in New Bloomfield.
A great alternative to keeping your kids up until midnight is the 21st annual New Year’s Eve party for children at Sunoco Performance Theater at Whitaker Center. Kids first enjoy a show – this year’s show is Snow White and the Two Dwarfs. Tickets are $12, and include admission, noisemakers, party hats and a balloon drop. Plus, at noon – kids share high fives instead of kisses!
The State Museum of Pennsylvania also hosts a noontime celebration for young children, running from 10 a.m. to noon. The event features dancing, crafts and snacks, topped off by the museum’s firefly drop in Memorial Hall at noon. Free with museum admission.
“Jingle Linglestown” is the second annual New Year’s Eve Celebration taking place in Linglestown Square. Fun includes food and hot drink stations, plus music provided by local talent and radio personality Tim Burns. Bring small bells to “jingle” in the new year at midnight!
Roundtop Mountain Resort has a party like no other on New Year’s Eve. Guests can ski, snowboard and tube until 11:30 p.m. — then join the party back at main lodge, featuring a pizza buffet and Tuckahoe Ridge on stage until midnight. Or join the Fireside Party, featuring dinner specials and a champagne toast at midnight.
Celebrate New Year’s all day long in Hershey! The party starts at 11 a.m. as The Hershey Story, The Museum on Chocolate Avenue, hosts Rock Around the Clock on New Year’s Eve and counts down the New Year in countries around the world.
The First United Methodist Church of Hershey will host family friendly games indoors and out from 9-11 p.m., serving hot chocolate and homemade cookies from 8 p.m. until midnight. Live music from Celtic band, Rizzetta’s Tones, will play inside the church at 8 p.m.
Local band, The Swaines, will kick off the downtown party at 9 p.m. at the corner of Chocolate and Cocoa Ave., followed by All Jacked Up. The evening’s featured act is R5, playing from 10:30 p.m. until The Hershey’s Kiss Raise countdown begins just before midnight.
Ring in the New Year in Downtown Harrisburg! The party kicks off with performances and children’s crafts from Popcorn Hat Players, beginning at 9 p.m. Live music begins at 9:15 p.m. and features RaDash, Erica Lynn, Addia Musique and X-Factor, followed by remarks by the Mayor before the Countdown to midnight and famous Strawberry Drop.
