Welcome! You’re in town for the State Games of America (SGA) this week, so what are the top can’t-miss sights to see? Here is just a small sampling of what there is to do in and around the Hershey Harrisburg region:
- Pennsylvania State Capitol – Theodore Roosevelt once called it “the most handsome State Capitol” he’d ever seen. Free public tours are available daily. From its beautiful fountain to the marble staircases and amazing dome, you’ll find plenty of Instagram-able shots here!
- Hersheypark & Hershey’s Chocolate World Attraction – Go on a million rides, including great roller coasters like the Great Bear and Fahrenheit, or cruise the Lazy River at The Boardwalk, the park’s own water park. Afterwards, take your free “how chocolate is made” tour at Chocolate World, then buy all the candy.
- Get away from it all – Just minutes from the hustle and bustle you can find peace and quiet at any number of scenic outdoor spots in the area for Family Fun. From golf spots to hiking trails, there’s a little something for everyone.
- Take a tour — See our capital city by bike or by boat. Harrisburg Bike Taxi provides unique tours of the city — and then delivers you to the dock at City Island to board The Pride of the Susquehanna to see the sights from the water.
- Wine about it – Parents can enjoy our fast-growing wine industry. Who knew Pennsylvania was primed for grapes? Take a peek at the Hershey Harrisburg Wine Country and discover more than a dozen local wineries within easy driving distance.
- Beer here! — Oh hey we have a bunch of microbreweries in the area as well. Troegs Brewing Co. is a must-stop. Take the self-guided tour then reward yourself with a sampler of their flagship beers — and don’t miss a sip from their Scratch Series. Appalachian Brewing Co. in Harrisburg also offers tours and sampler trays … and live music upstairs in their Abbey Bar.
- Take a bet — Visit Hollywood Casino and Penn National Race Course. Horses races nearly every day of the year, and well, the slots never close down. Enjoy some great dining at Final Cut Steakhouse, a premier restaurant inside the casino — and catch live music acts every weekend.
