Looking for a great way to relax on a Friday night? Throw on a sundress and summon your appetite. There are three places to enjoy great live jazz music outdoors — accompanied by some of the area’s finest food. 
The Hilton Harrisburg has been hosting jazz since 1990. Every Friday night hear jazz duos and trio between 7:30-11 p.m. at The Bar. Enjoy small plates and wines by the glass in this cozy lobby level bar.
Of course, in the summer, this moves outdoors to The Patio, where you can enjoy sandwiches, half-pound sirloin burgers or full entrees of duck or grass-fed beef. Enjoy expertly crafted cocktails — or sample from the wine and cheese flights. Music is provided by Steve Rudolph, jazz pianist and recording artist, and special guests.
You can also catch Rudolph perform during Sunday Jazz Brunches in Raspberries every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Now located at The Tracy Mansion in Midtown Harrisburg, Char’s Restaurant opened its riverfront veranda for al fresco upscale dining and live music. Sample from Char’s full menu, or check out the grill menu.
On Friday and Saturday nights, musicians perform live beneath a custom-built half shell on Char’s front lawn, facing the patio, featuring local and regional musicians performing jazz and blues to R&B.
And of course, Fridays in Hershey mean one thing for the adult set: Jazz on the Veranda. Held every Friday through August from 7:30-10:30 p.m., the massive front porch at The Hotel Hershey is packed with locals and tourists enjoying live jazz music.
A special light fare menu is featured from 6-9 p.m. with full service. Get there early to snag a table — or, dine first at The Circular, Trevi 5 or Harvest before drinks and dancing.
Choose cocktails by liquor (Grey Goose, Johnnie Walker Black), wine (glass or bottle) — or beer. I recommend one of the two local seasonal brews, either from Troegs Brewing Co. or Stoudts Brewing Co.
